Severe Weather Decision Process

In the event severe weather conditions threaten to disrupt class and/or administrative office schedules, the primary concern will be the safety and welfare of the students, faculty and staff. In such situations, the following will be initiated:

  • The vice president for administration (or designee) will contact the Pennsylvania State Police and/or Pennsylvania Department of Transportation to ascertain the condition of roads accessing Bloomsburg University.
  • Additionally, the vice president will confer with BU's physical plant director to evaluate potential difficulties in keeping campus roads and parking areas clear during the day. The vice president may confer with other cabinet members to develop a recommendation for the president.
  • If severe weather conditions exist prior to the start of the class/administrative schedules, a decision will be made by 5:15 a.m.
  • Following the president's decision, the vice president will immediately inform the marketing and communications office, who will use the appropriate outlets to disseminate the information. Updates will be issued if the weather affects more than one class and administrative office day.
