Parents’ and Family Weekend


Friday, Oct. 4

  • 7:45 a.m. to 5 p.m. University Store Hours. Check out the sale items throughout the weekend with 20% off clothing and insignia merchandise.
  • 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sit in on your child’s (or parent’s) classes. Please get the instructor’s permission in advance.
    Noon to Midnight Games Room at KUB. Free billiards & gaming station for parents & family members. BU students and family members may enter a drawing for a chance to win a $50 gift certificate to the University Store! You do not need to be present to win.
  • 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Registration (KUB Main Lobby). We like to know who’s here. Enter the drawing for University Store gift certificates! Students may register their parents if they wish. Football game tickets may also be purchased at registration. Free balloon sculptures by Lanny Lee.
  • 7 p.m. Program Board Presents Bingo (KUB Ballroom). B.U. students and all of their guests can play for just $.25 per card (limit of 6 cards). We will be awarding $400 in cash prizes. Free refreshments celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month and one free specialty card will be provided by Cultural Affairs/Student Support Services. Parents and other family members can also win door prizes provided by the Multicultural Center.
  • 7 p.m. Movie: Toy Story 4 (G), (KUB Hideaway).
  • 7 p.m. Women’s Volleyball vs. Clarion (Nelson Field House).
  • 9 p.m. Program Board presents Comedy Hypnosis by Paul Ramsey (Carver Hall, Gross Auditorium). Paul Ramsay believes that hypnotism is more than a way to entertain people, and his stage show reflects that. Paul has the utmost care and respect for volunteers at his show. “I believe that being hypnotized can change your life for the better, even if you’re doing it for the very first time on stage and making people laugh. It’s fun, but it’s also powerful!” Free for students and family members.
  • 9:30 p.m. Movie: Toy Story 4 (G), (KUB Hideaway).

Saturday, Oct. 5

  • 10 a.m. Men’s and Women’s Tennis PSAC Singles/Doubles Championships. (Upper Campus)
  • 10 a.m. Alumni Baseball Game at Danny Litwhiler Field. (Upper Campus)
  • 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Quest Open High Adventure Day. Quest will open its rock wall and zip lines, FREE for BU students, $5 others. The course is located on upper campus, across from Nelson Field House. All are encouraged to participate (rock wall and zip lines are open to children age 8 and above). Bring your friends and family! No sign-up required.
  • 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. University Store Hours. Check out the sale items throughout the weekend with 20% off clothing and insignia merchandise.
  • 11 a.m. Swimming Alumni Meet (Nelson Field House)
  • 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Registration (Outside the Pre-Game Luncheon). Enter the drawing for gift certificates to the University Store.
  • Noon Women’s Volleyball vs Slippery Rock (Nelson Field House).
  • Noon to 2 p.m. Parents’ & Family Weekend Pre-Game Pig Roast. The Pig Roast will be held from Noon to 2 p.m. on the softball field across from Redman Stadium and will include beer and wine for those over 21. The Pig Roast is Sold Out. No walk-ins will be accepted.
  • Noon to Midnight Games Room in KUB open!
  • 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Registration (Redman Stadium Table inside the Main Gate). If you haven’t registered by the time you get to the game, please stop by the registration table.
  • 2 p.m. The Huskies will take on the Kutztown University Golden Bears at the 2019 Parents’ and Family Weekend Football Game at Redman Stadium. Sit back and relax at half time for a performance by the Huskies Marching Band and the Parents’ and Family Weekend Committee featuring the winning essay in our Parent(s) of the Day contest. Tickets can be purchased in advance for the game by going to buhuskies.com. Tickets can also be purchased at the gate. Tailgate Zone spaces may also be purchased online at buhuskies.com/tailgate. Processing fees apply). Gates will open 90 minutes prior to kickoff.
  • 3 p.m. Movie: Toy Story 4 (G), (KUB Hideaway).
  • 8 p.m. to 11 p.m. Program Board Casino Night, Music and Mocktails (KUB Ballroom). BU students and family members receive $2,500 in play money to enjoy some fun games including Blackjack, Texas Hold’em, Craps, Roulette, and Big Wheel. Use your winnings to enter the raffle for prizes. We will have live music set up in the lobby of the Ballroom and enjoy some Mocktails while listening! Lanny Lee will be doing free balloon sculptures. Stay the whole night or stop by anytime and play.

Sunday, Oct. 6

  • 9 a.m. Men’s and Women’s Tennis PSAC Singles/Doubles Championships. (Upper Campus)
  • 9 a.m. Baseball Golf Outing at Frosty Valley Country Club, Danville (Must pre-register!).
  • 10 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Brunch (Scranton Commons Dining Rooms). No advance registration is needed.
  • 11 a.m. Parents’ and Family Weekend Worship Service (KUB Multicultural Center). Refreshments will follow the service. Sponsored by Protestant Campus Ministry.
  • 11 a.m. Catholic Campus Ministry Sunday Mass (KUB Ballroom). Light refreshments will follow Mass.
  • 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. University Store Hours. Last chance for special sale items!
  • Noon to Midnight Games Room in KUB open!
  • Noon Movie: Toy Story 4 (G), (KUB Hideaway).

Classroom Buildings: Open on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. for your perusal.

Recreation: The Student Recreation Center will be open Friday until 10 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Facilities include multipurpose courts, racquetball courts, indoor climbing wall, and fitness, weights and aerobics rooms. All equipment is available at the front desk. Family members are welcome to the use of the Rec Center free of charge when accompanied by their B.U. student relative with valid ID. Those under the age of 18 may not use the fitness or weight rooms and must be accompanied by an adult in the restroom/locker room area.

Wi-Fi: Please Enjoy Campus Wi-Fi while you’re here this weekend. Guest access is available using the “bloomu” wireless network.

Parking: There is open parking in any legal parking space for the weekend beginning at 5 p.m. on Friday, except for metered (unless you pay), handicap (with a state issue hangtag or plate) & reserved spaces.

East Second Street Parking Changes:
The Town of Bloomsburg regulates parking on the north side of East 2nd Street from Elm to Chestnut Streets. Bloomsburg University permits are no longer valid in this area.

The Bloomsburg Police Department enforces parking in this area which requires a pay-by-phone service by Pango. This area is designated by signs with information on how to pay for parking using a mobile application. The six existing meters in front of the University Bookstore can be purchased by coin or the mobile app.

Off Campus

Town Park: Our beautiful Town Park has picnic areas, a fitness trail, a disc golf course, tennis courts, and the Kidsburg play area. Some services may be interrupted due to the flood wall construction.

Golf Anyone? There are a number of golf courses in the area, including Rolling Pines, Arnold’s, Knoebels Three Ponds, and The Links.

Covered Bridge and Arts Festival at Knoebels Amusement Park: October 3-6, Fri-Sat 10 a.m.-6 p.m., Sun 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Situated in the beautiful surroundings of Knoebels Amusement Resort, the 38th Annual Columbia-Montour Visitors Bureau Covered Bridge Festival has something for everyone! More than 385 craft vendors and over 38 food vendors! FREE parking, admission, and entertainment. Knoebels rides will be open each day. Parking is free. From Bloomsburg, follow Route 487 south to the park.

Bloomsburg Theatre Ensemble (BTE) The Complete Works of William Shakespeare (abridged). This irreverent, fast-paced romp through Shakespeare’s plays was London’s longest running stage comedy and a hit at theatres all over the world! Join three of BTE’s goofiest actors as they weave their wicked way through all of Shakespeare’s Comedies, Histories and Tragedies in one wild ride that will leave you breathless and helpless with laughter.
