History Curriculum Guides

With the intention of providing diversity as well as the better understanding of the student's own world, the Department of History mandates key base requirements but also offers upper level course options. To promote a basic knowledge of global cultures the department requires two surveys in American history, two surveys in western civilization, and two surveys from a selection of African, Asian, Muslim world, and Latin American courses. To facilitate understanding of the historian's craft, students must take Historiography and Research and Writing Skills. The remaining fifteen of the thirty-nine academic credits for the major come from upper level offerings of which one course must be in United States, one in European, and one in non-western history.
