Summer Commencement for Class of 2020

Congrats Class of 2020!

Winter Commencement

We hope this fall is treating you well as you have made the transition between sessions and work toward a strong finish to this extraordinary semester. We did want to share details regarding commencement to allow you to plan appropriately for the opportunities we are able to offer in this COVID environment.

Bloomsburg University’s Fall 2020 Commencement will take place in two formats this year.

Stage Walk Event - Sunday, Nov. 22

On Sunday, Nov. 22, there will be an on-campus stage walk event and photo opportunity for the graduates and their family/supporters in Haas Auditorium, Mitrani Hall. This will be organized much like the event in August. Upon check in at Haas Auditorium will be placed in line. When directed you will approach the stage and be announced while crossing and receive your diploma cover from either the President and/or Provost. Once you exit the stage you and your guests will be asked to continue out of the auditorium where you can take photos. There will be a photographer on site to take photos of this event.

  • Registration is required by Oct. 30 to attend this on-campus event. Contact Melissa Buck at mbuck@bloomu.edu if you haven't received the registration link.
  • Students may bring a max of eight supporters
  • Masks and social distancing is required

Virtual Ceremony - Saturday, Dec. 12

On Saturday, Dec. 12, we will celebrate the Class of 2020 with virtual commencement ceremonies. We invite all graduates to submit a photo for the Virtual Commencement ceremony. This will be displayed along with your name. If you choose not to submit a photo your name will only be shown under your major and no photo.

Please Note: The deadline to submit photos is Friday, Oct. 30, and they should be done in business casual attire.

How to submit your Virtual Commencement photos:

  • Ensure that you are in a well-lit room/area
  • Picture must be HORIZONTAL
  • Use a background with some color and subtle scenery (i.e. outside by some flowers, a tree or inside near a bookcase) - NO SELFIES!!
  • Save your image using your First Name, Last Name, and College as the file name (ie: Susan Smith COED.jpg)
  • Send your image as an attachment to mbuck@bloomu.edu

While we wish we could be together in honor of this momentous occasion, the virtual experience by no means diminishes the hard work and determination students have put forward in completing their degree. We look forward to celebrating with you.

After Graduation

Awarding of Degrees

Following the commencement ceremony and/or the last day of your graduation term several checks occur before you are officially graduated from the University.

  • Once grades are posted, the Office of the Registrar completes a final review of each graduating student's general education requirements and other degree requirements
  • After this is complete, the Office of the Registrar will confer your degree.
  • If there are concerns with your degree requirements you will be notified.

This process may take up to six weeks to complete. Once conferred, your degree will appear on your unofficial transcript within MyHusky and on your official transcripts.

Teacher Certification

Graduates may contact Amy Eitzen, teacher certification coordinator, for assistance with the online application process. Anticipated processing time for applications on campus is two weeks and six to eight weeks in Harrisburg. For more on certification and required testing:

Transcripts

Requests for Official Transcripts must be processed from your MyHusky account, under other academic, choose "Transcript: Request Official." There is no fee for this service and all transcripts must be mailed.

Student Voter Registration Cancellation

If you are currently registered to vote in Columbia County and know that you will be moving from the area after graduation, you must cancel your registration in Columbia County and re-register at your new address. The appropriate form is available in local libraries and post offices.
