Class of 2020

Virtual graduation ceremonies to be held Saturday, Aug. 8

Dear BU Graduates,

I am writing to update you regarding our Commencement ceremonies scheduled for the weekend of Aug. 7, 2020. With Columbia County’s transition to the “Green” phase on June 12, we continue to follow the guidance of public health experts as part of a safe phased reopening of the Commonwealth.

Within the green phase, large gatherings of more than 250 people are strictly prohibited. This restriction unfortunately prevents us from hosting an in-person Commencement. Therefore, the University will be hosting virtual graduation ceremonies on Saturday, Aug. 8. The health and safety of the entire BU community has been our highest priority since the COVID-19 pandemic swept across our country in March, and that remains our chief commitment to your families and you.

Because it is customary for families and supporters to join together and celebrate important milestone such as graduation, I share your disappointment that we – the entire BU Family – cannot gather in person to celebrate this achievement with you. On behalf of your faculty and all my colleagues, I look forward to being together virtually on Aug. 8, and celebrating with all of you in a unique and meaningful way.

Further details on the August ceremonies are forthcoming from our registrar’s office. The registrar’s office will provide more information about participating in an in-person ceremony in May 2021, should this option be of interest to you. If you have any questions, please send them directly to gradquestions@bloomu.edu.

Congratulations to each of you on your achievement. We look forward to being with you in August!

Sincerely,

    Dr. Bashar W. Hanna, President

After Graduation

Awarding of Degrees

Following the commencement ceremony and/or the last day of your graduation term several checks occur before you are officially graduated from the University.

  • Once grades are posted, the Office of the Registrar completes a final review of each graduating student's general education requirements and other degree requirements
  • After this is complete, the Office of the Registrar will confer your degree.
  • If there are concerns with your degree requirements you will be notified.

This process may take up to six weeks to complete. Once conferred, your degree will appear on your unofficial transcript within MyHusky and on your official transcripts.

Teacher Certification

Graduates may contact Amy Eitzen, teacher certification coordinator, for assistance with the online application process. Anticipated processing time for applications on campus is two weeks and six to eight weeks in Harrisburg. For more on certification and required testing:

Transcripts

Requests for Official Transcripts must be processed from your MyHusky account, under other academic, choose "Transcript: Request Official." There is no fee for this service and all transcripts must be mailed.

Student Voter Registration Cancellation

If you are currently registered to vote in Columbia County and know that you will be moving from the area after graduation, you must cancel your registration in Columbia County and re-register at your new address. The appropriate form is available in local libraries and post offices.
