Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) Services DAWN


Alcohol and Other Drug (AOD) Prevention and Intervention Services focuses on helping students fully understand how a choice to use AOD can affect their health/safety, academic performance, legal standing, and future career. AOD Prevention and Intervention Services provide students with accurate and up-to-date information and implements evidence-based strategies for the reduction of high risk/dangerous drinking and drug use. We seek to emphasize the promotion of positive coping skills and health-enhancing behaviors. In conjunction with Health and Wellness, we empower students to make informed decisions, develop skills that enhance well-being and pursue the lifelong benefits of maintaining a well-balanced lifestyle.

DAWN provides the following services:

    o Information and Education on AOD issues
    o BASICS - Brief Alcohol Screening and Intervention for College Students
    o CASICS - Cannabis Screening and Intervention for College Students
    o Mandated AOD educational workshops for students who have violated the University’s Code of Conduct
    o Individual Follow Up Sessions
    o Support for students who want to make changes regarding AOD use
    o Support for students who were/are in a relationship with family/friends in substance abuse disorder
    o Referral services
    o Husky PAWS (Peer Assisted Wellness Services) educational outreach programming
    o Curriculum infusion (AOD Coordinator)
    o Special events programming (AOD Coordinator and Husky PAWS)
    o Information distribution tables
    o Community service opportunities
