Research Interests

My research focuses on the design of small-molecule probes to study hydrolase and esterase enzymes, which cleave ester functional groups into alcohols and carboxylic acids. Selective chemical probes are powerful tools to explore enzyme features and can have wide-ranging utility, such as fluorescent tags for biomolecular imaging and labeling, or inhibitors to improve drug optimization. The study of these probes provides an opportunity to explore aspects of organic chemistry, medicinal chemistry and biochemistry, using relatively simple methods and materials.
