Conserving water on campus

Jessica S. Kozloff Apartments

Through the last decade BU's facilities management plumbers installed Prevail water conserving shower valves in the water line prior to the shower heads at the seven residence halls, Montgomery Place Apartments, Mount Olympus Apartments and Jessica S. Kozloff Apartments.

A total of 798 Prevail shower valves were installed.

This effort has resulted in conserving millions of gallons of water through the last decade and will continue to conserve water into the future. Our sewage bill is equal to the gallons of water consumption. So any gallons of water reduced will also save on sewage bills as well.

Faculty, staff and students can further reduce water consumption by:

  • Cut down your shower time by a minute or two, and you could save up to 150 gallons of water each month.
  • Turn off water when brushing teeth or shaving, and you could save up to 25 gallons of water each month.
  • Report leaking faucets or continuously running urinals or commodes, and you can save thousands of gallons of water each month. #BUSustainability
