Percussion Ensemble Spring Concert

BLOOMSBURG— The Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania Percussion Ensemble will give its spring concert Tuesday, April 16, at 7:30 p.m. at the Haas Center for the Performing Arts. This event is free and open to the public.

The ensemble, directed by Gifford Howarth, associate professor of music, will perform three compositions by guest composer Jamieson Carr. Carr has several works published with Tapspace Publications, Bachovich Publications, and Doug Wallace Percussion, and has been commissioned on several occasions by the James Madison University (JMU) Percussion Ensemble and high school ensembles. His works have been performed at universities and public school across the United States. Carr earned a master’s and bachelor’s degree from JMU, studying with C. William Roce, Michael Overman, and Marlon Foster. He is an active member of the Percussive Arts Society, and the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers.

Howarth is the marimba soloist for Marimba Concerto with Percussion Orchestra by Daniel Levitan. The ensemble is made up of music majors, music minors, and other Bloomsburg University students with a percussion background.
