Political science major to intern in Governor Tom Wolf’s office

BLOOMSBURG— Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania student Kaitlyn Floyd from Mertztown, Pa. has been selected as BU’s THIS (The Harrisburg Internship Semester) intern for Spring 2019.

Floyd, a junior majoring in political science, will intern in Governor Tom Wolf’s office. THIS which provides students from the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education the opportunity to work in all areas of state government while earning a full semester’s worth of credits. THIS invites students from each of the State System universities to participate.

“I originally applied for this internship because I knew the opportunities and real-world experiences it would provide me was something I could not pass up,” says Floyd. “I was also intrigued by the chance of living in Harrisburg for a semester and changing up the typical college experience for something a little different, but just as rewarding. Ultimately, I hope to one day be involved with government and its inner workings to help make a positive impact on people's lives.”

Floyd, the daughter of Sandra and Brian Floyd, and the other students participating in the program will also attend several academic seminars during their spring semester internship. Each of the students will complete an individualized research project as part of the program’s requirements.

More than 600 students from the State System universities have participated in THIS since the program began in 1989, each gaining valuable insight into the workings of state government at the policy-making level. Interns have worked with dozens of state agencies, as well as in the offices of the governor, the speaker of the House of Representatives and the attorney general.
