BU celebrates the Andruss Library Anniversary

BLOOMSBURG— Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania celebrates the 20th anniversary of the dedication of the Harvey A. Andruss Library building with the “Twentieth on Twentieth” on Thursday, Sept. 20, at 1 p.m. on the first floor alcove of the library. The event will include refreshments, live music, cupcakes, selfie’s with Roongo, and a chance for students to win gift cards. The event is free.

The event starts at 1 p.m. with a bluegrass fiddle performance by John Faus, a member of the Greenwood Valley Boys and Raven Creek bands and a library custodian. Library employees will also create an anniversary time capsule and introduce a student mural contest. The closing event will take place at 2:15 p.m. with a live performance by the BU women’s Choral Ensemble, under the direction of Amelia Garbisch, Ph.D.

Throughout the week of Sept. 17-21, library-themed coloring sheets and word puzzles will be available at the circulation desk located on the first floor in honor of the celebration. Bloomsburg students will also get a chance to win a twenty-five dollar amazon gift card by visiting the “Unusual and Rare Items from the Library’s Collections” exhibit in front of the university archives on the third floor and guessing the age of the oldest library book.

The “Unusual and Rare Items from the Library’s Collections” exhibit will remain on display through mid-October. An additional exhibit located on the first floor showing the history of the library will remain throughout the entire fall semester.

The Harvey A. Andruss Library (named for a former Bloomsburg University president) provides access to more than 450,000 volumes of books, bound periodicals, and government documents; 2 million microforms; 50,000 journals, magazines, and newspapers in both print and electronic format; and over 150 online databases.
