BU to host Speaker on Empowering Women

BLOOMSBURG— Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania will host a talk by nationally renowned speaker Julia Garcia titled “21%: The Rise of Women and  Entrepreneurs” on Tuesday, March 27, at 6 p.m. in the Kehr Union Building’s Multicultural Center.

In her talk, Garcia shares her best-kept secrets on how she went from feeling underestimated and not good enough to be able to walk into a room and command the full attention of peers twice her age. She tells audiences that it’s not about what they think they have no business doing, but about building the habit of doing and laying a foundation that can bring any business and dream to life. Garcia also addresses the 21 percent wage gap between men and women and explores different ways for women to invest in their career, education and the factors that prevent individuals from rising above the adversities they face.

Garcia is a graduate of the New York Institute of Technology (NYIT) with a Bachelor of Communication Arts. She also has a master’s degree in Human Science from Saybrook University and is a doctoral candidate at Saybrook. Garcia is an NCAA certified speaker and holds a National E Coaching License from U.S. Soccer. At NYIT she was a member of the women’s soccer team, a reporter for a local news station and president of the Women’s Association. After graduation, she founded Truality.org; a TRU Movement that is inspiring people to be to TRU…The Real U.

The Multicultural Center and the Women’s Resource Center are sponsoring the event.
