Naiya Brown, OWL historian

Hello Everyone! My name is Naiya Brown and I am currently a senior here at Bloom. I am co-historian of the Orientation Workshop Leaders.

OWL Naiya Brown

The OWLs literally mean the world to me and I am forever grateful for this amazing organization. I am so happy to be an OWL, it seriously is the best job ever. I am a psychology major with a minor in communication studies in hopes of becoming a child psychologist. I love communicating with others and helping people, I want to make a difference in others lives.

I was honored to be nominated as co-historian of the OWLs however I am involved with other clubs on campus. I am a board of governors scholar and I am involved in the psychology association.

I participate in community service every semester and β€œI AM THAT GIRL” which is a club for women empowerment. I am also on an advisory board and a new club called Active Minds which deals with mental health awareness.

Why I chose Bloomsburg University

Bloomsburg University was my first choice and when I toured the campus I instantly envisioned myself here. As senior in high school I could not wait until I was able to become a student at Bloom.

Three years later, I have grown and learned about myself and about life in general. I have been fortunate enough to experience leadership opportunities and I have connected with numerous professors and students. This university has blessed me in many ways and I could never imagine myself anywhere else to working towards my bachelors degree.

What is your favorite part about Orientation?

I love making the students and parents smile and/or laugh! The best feeling in the world in my opinion is making someone or others feel better. When I help move in students with their parents, I love reassuring them and telling them that everything is going to be okay. I also get to connect and bond with all the unique owls and together it is a beautiful experience.

Orientation is a way for me to help students with their transition from high school to college. I also love meeting and interacting with new people. Lastly, I love when the students remember me and tell me how much of an impact that I had on them!

What I wish I knew as a high school senior

I wish that someone told me that college is an unexpected journey because it is! I wish I would of taken high school more seriously and I wish someone told me to get more involved. I also wish that someone told me to look into scholarships before I was accepted to Bloom. I wish that someone told me that it is okay to ask for help and always be yourself.

College is the best and most stressful time in your life but embrace all of the lessons and mistakes to better yourself. This is the time to shine and find who you are and never take life for granted. Good Luck to you all! I hope to see you here at Bloom! GO HUSKIES!!
