Nadine DeJesus, OWL activities coordinator

Hi! My name is Nadine De Jesus and I am a Mass Communications (Telecommunications track) major and Business Management minor here at Bloomsburg University. I’m from Allentown, PA. I was a husky in High school so the phrase “Once a Husky, Always a Husky!” regains true to form for me!

I have several different leadership positions at BU. I am the Activities Coordinator of the OWLs, I am the secretary of the National Broadcasting Society, and I also have a work study job, as well as dance on the BU dance ensemble. I love being involved and all the amazing people I have met in my organizations. Bloomsburg is my second home, and the people here, from my boss to my friends, are my second family.

I am also involved in various organizations on campus such as the Presidential Leadership Program, Psychology Association, Mentor for the Compass Living and Learning Community and an Admissions Tour Guide.

Why I chose Bloomsburg University

During the college process, I ended up getting accepted to each school I applied to. That only made the decision even harder. To be honest, Bloomsburg was my third choice. I thought I had it all figured out, and thought I would either follow my sister’s footsteps and go to a private college with her, or end up at Drexel.

When I went on my college tours, I figured out quickly that I did not have it all figured out. Although my first and second choices were beautiful campuses with great programs, neither of them were a fit for me.

When I got to Bloomsburg, I immediately felt the comfort of the community and pictured myself walking on campus. I knew that Bloomsburg could be my second home, and I felt that not only would I be safe at a social level, but academically my experiences would be enriching. As I approach my graduation, I couldn’t be happier that I made the decision to come to Bloomsburg and all my predictions came true.

What is my favorite part of Orientation?

My favorite part about Orientation is meeting students and families. It’s so interesting to hear where people are coming from, why they chose BU, and get to know them personally. I love being the first face new students see, whether it be at Orientation or Move In. I also enjoy helping the parents and students by guiding their way on campus, answering their questions, or just being energetic enough to get them excited to become a Husky.

What I wish I knew as a High School Senior

Now that I’ve been here, I’ve learned you can get everything and more with a public university education. The friends that made me nervous to claim my acceptance haven’t experienced half the things I have during my college career. I’ve traveled to conventions in California and New York, as well as studied abroad in Denmark.

I have gotten to see Spain, Sweden, and London. And the best part? I’m not up to my ears in debt! Don’t let a title sway you from a university, because no one can put a price on the experiences and growth I’ve attained here at Bloomsburg. I would not be me if I didn’t come here, and I’m so happy I did.
