Spring Commencement


Congratulations on the upcoming completion of your studies at Bloomsburg University. It's time to begin planning on fulfilling your degree requirements in preparation of walking for commencement.

Application for Graduation — It's the responsibility of the graduating student to complete the application for graduation. If a student has a question or concern about eligibility, contact the department/program coordinator as soon as possible. Feb. 1 is the deadline for student submission for Spring or Summer 2019. Department approval is necessary in order to be eligible to participate in commencement, have a name printed in the program, and for the degree to be granted.

Applications for Graduation are now submitted electronically through your MyHusky account. Please reference the tutorials below on how to complete the online application.

Financial Aid Exit Counseling — If you received financial aid you must complete the exit counseling prior to walking in commencement.

Clear Bag Guidelines

To help provide a safer environment for students, family members, and guests and to expedite entry into facilities during large events, Bloomsburg University has implemented safety guidelines that limit the size and type of bag that may be brought into its facilities.

Graduate Ceremony, Friday, May 10

6 pm - College of Graduate Studies

Graduate commencement to confer master's and doctorate degrees will be held in Mitrani Hall, Haas Center for the Arts.

Cap, Gown, Tassel and Hood— Each master’s or doctoral participant must be attired in an academic robe, matching cap, and carrying your hood over your left arm. A predesignated faculty member will hood you on stage. Academic attire must be purchased online. The option to have your regalia shipped will be available when you place your order.

Undergraduate Ceremony, Saturday, May 11

10 am - College of Education and College of Liberal Arts

3 pm - Zeigler College of Business and College of Science and Technology

Undergraduate commencement to confer bachelor's degrees will be held in Redman Stadium

You can select the buttons at any time to launch the player. The video feed will go live 15 minutes before the ceremony begins. Within an hour after each ceremony, it will become available for on demand playback via the same button.

Academic Honors — Honors for undergraduate commencement are based on the cumulative grade point average for the semester prior to the spring. Honors for the diploma and final transcript are based on the cumulative grade point average, including the spring semester. A minimum of 45 credits must be earned in residence at BU as of the next-to-last semester in order to qualify for honors at the ceremony.

Honors are as follows: Cum Laude, 3.50 to 3.74; Magna Cum Laude, 3.75 to 3.94; and Summa Cum Laude, 3.95 to 4.00.

Graduation Verification Session — Any undergraduate student who was “Approved” for graduation should plan to attend the Graduation Verification Session on April 9 or April 10, 11 am to 6 pm, in the Student Services Center lobby. This is a drop in session.

Graduating students can verify their graduation information and obtain their name card and honor cord if eligible.If you cannot attend, please contact gradquestions@bloomu.edu to make other arrangements.

Cap, Gown, and Tassel — Undergraduate academic regalia consists of black gowns with wide, straight-edged sleeves and black mortarboard caps with maroon and gold tassels. The tassel is worn on the right side of the cap until the degree has been awarded. The uniform of the armed forces is the only other apparel officially recognized and permitted. Academic regalia must be purchased online. The option to have your regalia shipped will be available when you place your order.

 

After Graduation


Awarding of Degrees

Following the commencement ceremony and/or the last day of your graduation term several checks occur before you are officially graduated from the University.

  • Once grades are posted, the Office of the Registrar completes a final review of each graduating student's general education requirements and other degree requirements
  • After this is complete, the Office of the Registrar will confer your degree.
  • If there are concerns with your degree requirements you will be notified.

This process may take up to six weeks to complete. Once conferred, your degree will appear on your unofficial transcript within MyHusky and on your official transcripts.

Teacher Certification

Graduates may contact Angela McCabe, teacher certification coordinator, for assistance with the online application process. Anticipated processing time for applications on campus is two weeks and six to eight weeks in Harrisburg. For more on certification and required testing:

Transcripts

Requests for Official Transcripts must be processed from your MyHusky account, under other academic, choose "Transcript: Request Official." There is no fee for this service and all transcripts must be mailed.

Student Voter Registration Cancellation

If you are currently registered to vote in Columbia County and know that you will be moving from the area after graduation, you must cancel your registration in Columbia County and re-register at your new address. The appropriate form is available in local libraries and post offices.
