Campus Climate Survey
The President's Diversity and Inclusion Survey Leadership Team identified, developed, and implemented components contributing to a comprehensive BU Campus Climate Survey of Diversity.

Key Deliverables

  • conduct focus groups representative of BU's diverse community
  • develop a survey of items using the appropriate literature and information gathered in the focus groups,
  • present and solicit feedback on survey from members of the President’s Task Force on Diversity and Inclusion,
  • administer the survey campus-wide and analyze the resulting data,
  • present and solicit feedback on preliminary findings from members of the President’s Task Force on Diversity and Inclusion,
  • produce a draft BU Campus Climate survey Summary Report to be presented for preliminary review and discussion by the BU president, VPs, equity and accommodations director, APSCUF president, APSCUF meet & discuss chair, AFSCME president, AFSCME meet & discuss chair, SCUPA leadership and other appropriate bargaining unit representatives
  • disseminate the final Report to the campus community through pre-identified venues before finals week of Fall 2012; and
  • collect and synthesize comments from community members, summarize, discuss with President's Task Force on Diversity and Inclusion, and report to president's group.

The survey's implementation plan included:

Fall 2011

  • Obtain initial recommendations from Diversity and Inclusion Task Force Members regarding implementation steps and target focus groups
  • Submit and receive IRB approval for focus groups
  • Collaborate with Office of Marketing and Communication to develop Communication Plan
  • Conduct approximately 20 focus groups and analyze qualitative data
  • Purchase set of survey questions from Dr. Susan Rankin, Penn State University

Spring 2012

  • Revise survey questions to reflect the context and culture of Bloomsburg University
  • Prepare electronic draft of the survey using Qualtrics
  • Share draft survey with Diversity and Inclusion Task Force Members to make appropriate revisions (process repeated twice)
  • Identified incentives for participation
  • Submit and receive IRB for dissemination of survey (March 2012)
  • Develop and display website for survey and promotional materials
  • Conduct survey for three weeks
  • Conduct data analysis of survey results
  • Prepare draft report including recommendations from the Leadership Team for review by campus community
  • Obtain feedback on content of draft report

Summer and Fall 2012

  • Integrate feedback into the final report
  • Submit final report for review by campus
  • Present Campus Climate Survey findings through several campus venues
