State-of-the-Art Technology

BU's Department of Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology houses diagnostic and therapeutic equipment that provides audiology and speech pathology students access to and experience with sophisticated assessment techniques such as videostroboscopy, videofluoroscopy, nasometry, vestibular assessment, electronystagmography, and EEG.

The rotational chair, one of about a dozen in the U.S. outside of the military, is used to test inner ear function and balance in a completely darkened chamber. Videostroboscopy permits detailed analysis of vocal fold function, and students assist with/participate in videofluroscopic swallowing assessment. All students gain experience with state of the art instrumentation in their respective professions.
