Apply/Deadlines

Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA):  All students who wish to receive any type of federal or state aid (grants, scholarships, loans, employment) must submit this application.  Pennsylvania residents must file the 2019-2020 FAFSA by May 1, 2019 to be considered for the Pennsylvania State Grant for the 2019-2020 Academic Year (Summer 2019, Fall 2019, and Spring 2020 semesters).  

Grants

Federal Pell Grant:   No separate application is required.  Eligible students who have submitted a FAFSA will be considered for this grant.  The completed FAFSA information must be received from the federal processor by the Office of Financial Aid by the last day of the semester.  

Federal SEOG Grant:  No separate application is required.  Eligible students who have submitted a FAFSA will be considered for this grant. The completed FAFSA information must be received from the federal processor by the Office of Financial Aid by the last day of the semester.  

Pennsylvania State Grant:  Pennsylvania residents must file the FAFSA by May 1, 2019 for the 2019-2020 Academic Year to be considered for this grant.  Some students also will be required to complete the Pennsylvania State Grant Status Notice, which will be sent to the student by PHEAA.  

Summer 2019 Pennsylvania State Grant:  You will need to be enrolled a minimum of 6 credits during the summer semester to receive this grant.  The deadline is August 15, 2019.

Scholarships

BU Scholarships 2019-2020 Academic Year

  • Incoming Freshmen and incoming Transfer students should apply early for priority consideration.
  • Currently enrolled students may apply beginning January 1, 2019. The deadline is March 1, 2019.

BU Emergency Scholarship:  Deadline varies based on the availability of funding.

PASSHE Scholarships:  Deadlines vary by scholarship.

Loans

Federal Direct Student Loan:  All loans must be certified by the Office of Financial Aid by the last day of the loan term. Therefore all steps must be completed at least one day prior to the end of the loan term.

Federal Direct PLUS Loan:  All loans must be certified by the Office of Financial Aid by the last day of the loan term.  Therefore all steps must be completed at least one day prior to the end of the loan term.  Please use the following information as to when you may apply for the 2019-2020 Academic Year:

  • Loan Term Beginning Summer 2019 - Apply on or after April 8, 2019
  • Loan Term Beginning Fall 2019 - Apply on or after April 8, 2019
  • Loan Term Beginning Spring 2020 - Apply on or after November 1, 2019

State Loans:  Prior to applying for this type of loan, you should first explore all other forms of financial aid.  Students and parents wishing to receive this type of loan are encouraged to start applying on or after April 1, 2019 for the 2019-2020 Academic Year.  Deadlines vary by program. 

Private Educational Alternative Loans:  Prior to applying for this type of loan, you should first explore all other forms of financial aid. Students and parents wishing to receive this type of loan are encouraged to start applying on or after April 1, 2019 for the 2019-2020 Academic Year.  Deadlines vary by program. 

Employment

Federal Work-Study Program (FWSP) and Institutional State Student Employment:  Students are required to complete a new application each year.
